Here are 5 hilarious and empowering romantic comedies for single girl on valentine’s day. Some of these movies will break out the mold, showing characters navigating the unromantic complexities of relationships, finding happiness after a breakup, and living life on their own terms. With others, there may be some romance in the mix, but a fairytale ending isn’t necessarily inevitable.

1. Little Women (2019)

Directed by Greta Gerwig with the play of Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen as March sisters, 2019 of Little Women portrayed a fresh and attractive adaption of the cult classic novel.

The plot is about Jo March reflecting back and forth on her life, telling the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women, each determined to live life on her own terms.

Nothing too much and nothing too dramatic, just with its nostalgic vibes and great message about women’s dignity,  this movie is such a must-have ingredient for your February 14th.

2. 27 Dresses (2008)

This film is about a woman who is madly in love with her boss and wants to get married. She has attended 27 weddings, but sadly none of which her own.

Though the romance subplot is predictable, it story is saved by the rivalry and jealousy between sisters. This subplot is told in a tabloid way, which is fun and entertaining. The ending, which features a lot of dresses, is sweet and symbolically complete. “27 Dresses” provides adequate brain-off entertainment for the family.

3. Pride & Prejudice (2005)

Though Pride & Prejudice came out in 2005, it still feels like a fresh take on a beloved story; Mr. Darcy remains, for many, the ideal romantic hero. It’s one of the few classic romantic films that hasn’t aged badly, and, like the novel it’s based on, remains timeless. Beyond that, though, it’s just a good movie

4. Someone Great (2019)

Following a music journalist being dumped by her boyfriend in her outrageous adventure to New York with her two friends, Someone Great is really lit up with its title. This is a fluffy romp with a sobering truth: relationships and your twenties may end, but neither signals the end of the world. Finding a movie that’s best experienced while lazing on the couch, preferably on the morning after a wild night out? This movie is the best fit for you.

5. Bridesmaids (2011)

Annie is a single woman whose own life is a mess, but when she learns that her lifelong best friend, Lillian, is engaged, she has no choice but to serve as the maid of honor. Though lovelorn and almost penniless, Annie, nevertheless, winds her way through the strange and expensive rituals associated with her job as the bride’s go-to gal. Determined to make things perfect, she gamely leads Lillian and the other bridesmaids down the wild road to the wedding.

Bridemaids with laugh-out-loud displays of pettiness, pride, and passive-aggression, examines the complex story of a female friendship group. And as ten year passed, this movie remains a cinematic classic and one of the best comedy movies of all time.
